It was a successful Premier League debut at Old Trafford for Ruben Amorim on a wet Sunday afternoon. It’s been a very promising start so far under Amorim and Sunday was another pleasing display. I must admit at first, I was very upset, disappointed and slightly worried when it was announced there was no Højlund in the starting XI. He performed exceptionally well on Thursday evening in the Europa League and it would have been good for him to bring the confidence through to the league. However, we all know the youngster can be slightly temperamental with injuries, so resting him in anticipation for Wednesday’s game against Arsenal may have been a good call from Ruben and his men.
Another disappointing thing to see is the slight naivety from Mainoo and Martinez to get booked ahead of Wednesday’s big game. Arsenal away will be by far Amorim’s biggest test, and he will be missing two of his best players, which is a slightly nervous thought. Anyway, that’s the moaning over with.
Apart from the disappointments mentioned above, we played really well. The team looked really well organised from start to end and kept the consistency throughout, which was brilliant to see. Amad has been on fire this season, and has especially excelled under the new manager, and it is amazing to see. Building off youth success is a part of our club’s culture, so to see Amorim trusting youth talents, like Amad, is very pleasing. Amad has often been dismissed by previous managers and shipped out on loan, so to see him persevere and break through to (hopefully) become an amazing player, shows a lot about his character and maturity.
In the short amount of time he’s had, Amorim has really impressed and seemed to have brought some sort of identity to the club, which is exactly what we need. His presence in the media and on the touchline has been second to none and everyone (myself included) seems to be really impressed. Hopefully he can further bring out the Marcus Rashford that everyone knows he can be and in the first few games, this seems to be the case. Seeing Rashford perform poorly breaks my heart, but when he is on form, he’s unstoppable. Hopefully Amorim can better him even further.
Everyone’s full focus is now on to Wednesday where we face Arsenal away at The Emirates. It will be Ruben’s biggest challenge yet, and a good result would be huge for us and our season as a whole. With the absence of Martinez and Mainoo, it’s likely for us to see Ugarte start, and possibly even youngster Leny Yoro start his first competitive United game.
My MOTM: Rashford
Biggest impact: Amad
