A goalless draw at Villa Park - A full review of United's trip to Aston Villa

Unfortunately, (or fortunately), I have not been able to watch some of the recent games for several reasons, and I don’t feel as though I can truly dedicate an article to games I did not watch. This game was the only game I fully watched after the Spurs game. To put that in blatant terms, there wasn’t much I remembered from that game for a multiple reasons.

Going into the game, I was not looking forward to it. It’s very rare that I am as unoptimistic as I was that day. However, I feel that it is justified simply going off our results.

From what I understand, and from watching the highlights, the past few games have been really poor, but the goalless draw at Villa didn’t necessarily follow on. I was really pleased to see Rashford perform at his near best again. He was really on form in the first half and was shuffling past defenders in a way we would only see him do in his debut season. It was fair to say though that he definitely got lucky in the second half with not being sent off. It was definitely the correct decision by Ten Haag to take him off before he did get a suspension. The fouls were silly, unnecessary fouls he easily could have avoided doing. Nevertheless, he was very lucky to not have seen red.

Bruno has been under a lot of scrutiny recently from the media as a result of his mediocre performances. In my opinion, this is nonsense. Bruno has been a backbone of the squad for the past few years and a player we absolutely can rely on. To have our captain come under this unnecessary slander in my opinion is bonkers. He has simply been unlucky with missed chances in the last few games and has still carried out an amazing playmaker role for us, which is something we would be lost without. His outstanding free kick effort in the second half was another example of this. He showed off his sheer quality which unfortunately wasn’t quite rewarded.

I feel a draw was a fair result at Villa Park, however we definitely should have scored a goal from our multiple chances. It goes back to once again not taking our chances, which has been a reoccurring theme this year.

We head into the international break with some time to reflect for the reds as we welcome Brentford on the returning Saturday.

As always, don’t forget to contact us with your opinions of the game with the possibility of featuring in next week’s blog.
